MorganStanleylowereditspricetargetsformajorChineseandHongKongstockindexesfor

thesecondtimeinthreemonths,asWallStreetturnsmorecautiousontheworld’s

second-largesteconomy.

Thebankcutitsbase-caseJune2024targetfortheMSCIChinaindexto60,down14%from

itsearlierprojection,accordingtoaresearchnoteThursday.Theindexrisksslumpingto40,

oradropof33%fromitscurrentlevelofaround60,inMorganStanley’sbear-caseoutlook.

ThechangeisrelatedtoMorganStanley’srecentreductionofitsforecastsforChina’s

economicgrowthintonextyear,analystsincludingLauraWangandJonathanGarnerwrote

inthenote.

“Moresignificantearningspressureduetopropertysectorissues,localgovernmentfinancing

vehicles,deflationanddelayedstimulusfollow-through:thedownwardadjustmenttoour

targetsisdrivenbyacombinationofmuchlowerearningsexpectationin2023andalower

valuationmultipleassumption,”theanalystssaid
